30 Things This Geek Girl Likes About Men

I’m a geek and I fully admit and embrace it, but as a geek who’s also a girl, sometimes I feel it’s incredibly hard to find a guy that isn’t put off with the fact that I know more about computers than he does or that I’ll most likely destroy him on WoW.

But all hope isn’t lost, fellow geek girls; here’s 30 things we (read, I) like about guys (geek or otherwise):

  1. If you can make me laugh, I’m yours. Women love a guy with a sense of humor.
  2. Share my interest in geeky things. They don’t have to be the same thing – I’m a little more Star Wars and you’re a little bit Star Trek – but if you get a little geeky over something you love, that’s attractive.
  3. Have a brain. I can’t stress this enough; be able to think with the head on your shoulders and not…you know.
  4. Know your girl. Not every girl wants flowers and candy; most likely I want that new video card that will make Skyrim look awesome on my monitor.
  5. Be truthful. If you think you may have a problem and you need gambling addiction counseling or counseling of any kind, please tell me. In most cases, I’ll be supportive.
  6. Don’t try to solve my problems, geek or otherwise. Unless I tell you too. Most often, I need someone to just listen to me rant.
  7. Online dating lead me here. Even if we may not have met online, obviously I’ve gone through the process, so don’t judge.
  8. Play games with me. I won’t make you join the Alliance or the Sith (maybe), but you’d better like Mario Kart or Portal team play.
  9. Let’s not draw lines. I know more about Star Wars than Star Trek, but I like Star Trek. Let’s not be separated on the petty differences.
  10. I’m independent, so don’t get bent out of shape if I can carry my own bag.
  11. But don’t be a dick. We do like it if you hold the door open for us.
  12. I have technology. I can be reached through many means.
  13. But don’t stalk me.
  14. I and other girls want to share in stuff you like, even sports. Maybe you should teach us the basics.
  15. Some of us like your friends and we wanna hang out with them.
  16. But not all the time. You need guy time like we need girl time.
  17. Please don’t make me start every conversation. I shouldn’t need the jaws of life to hear about your day.
  18. No politics. None. Don’t wanna hear about it–la la la la la.
  19. As Jeff Foxworthy once said, “men are like bottle rockets, women are like diesel trucks.” It may take us a bit longer, but you will be rewarded if you take us to a high point.
  20. We’re not golddiggers. Yes, we’d like you to have a job, but if you’re going back to school to better yourself, I think that’s incredibly hot, as you’re making yourself a better person.
  21. Please like my friends. And I will really try to like yours.
  22. Women are mental, meaning the best way to my heart is through my mind.
  23. I’m not going to think you’re weak because you cried at the loss of your loved one. Chances are, I’m crying too.
  24. I will love you forever if you reach that plate from the top shelf. And if you kill a bug. I will love you forever times infinity if you kill a bug.
  25. I know you can’t help looking at other women, but please remember I’m sitting right next to you when you do it.
  26. I will also remember your presence when my celebrity crush appears on screen.
  27. While I like (love) technology, I also don’t like sitting in front of a computer for hours at a time. Please pull me away!
  28. You don’t have to fix my problems; just knowing you support me in navigating through them is enough.
  29. I have weird likes and dislikes. Please don’t make fun.
  30. We’re going to have differences; that’s okay. It’s what we have in common and how we handle the differences that’s important.

Relationships are work, hard work when you think about it, but it doesn’t mean they can’t be fulfilling once you’ve found the right person. Geeks and nerds are a rare breed in ourselves, but we’re quite fun once you get to know us.
