Chevy Tries to Man-up the Old Spice Guy

If you are a Chevy guy, heck if you are a TRUCK guy, OK… if you are even just a guy, you need to check out the new Silverado ad campaign from Chevy. I recently came across these videos and thought they were worth a share. This new ad campaign is probably the best shot at a viral marketing I’ve seen since the Old Spice guy. The skits star Craig Robinson (NBC’s The Office) as Chevrolet Silverado’s Allison transmission and Patrick Warburton (CBS’s Rules of Engagement & more importantly David Puddy from Seinfeld) as the Duramax diesel V8 engine. The skits are funny, strange, and even a bit over the top with masculinity. I have no need for one of these super-towing-muscle-showing man trucks, but I cant help but want to tie one up to something huge and move ‘er.

Are these ads a good example of a campaign that can truly go viral OR are they a lame attempt to MAN UP the Old Spice guy? Check out the videos below and let us know your thoughts.

Visit the campaign’s website to find these videos along with games, an iPhone app, and other cool interactive media. You can also follow Max and Al on twitter and facebook.

I like these ads. I don’t know if Chevy is trying to “man-up” the Old Spice Guy since the shower wash ads are speaking to women (“Look at your man, now back to me..”) where I think the Chevy ads are geared to men. Both ads, though, are definitely having fun with different types of masculinity.
