Fitness Guru Experiment- Genius, or Darwin Award Waiting to Happen?

You may or may not have heard about this fitness trainer who is purposely gaining 50-60 pounds within 6-months in order to lose it again. From his website he says:

“I hope to better gain an understanding of how hard it really is to be overweight. I know it’s only going to be for 6 months, but at least it’ll give me a small window of the physical and emotional issues that come with being overweight.”

That’s a cool goal, but I think he needs to add a bit more to the project to really get proper insight. I mean, for starters, he was already in great shape, it probably won’t be that difficult for him to get back into shape. He needs to some “criteria” in addition to the weight gain:

    1. Get a full time job not as a fitness trainer. For example, apply at a factory, or someplace that is hiring. Anywhere, but not in fitness, unless he works the desk or something.

    2. Get a part time job in addition to the full time job to simulate what “real” people have to do to make ends meet.

    3. Can’t find #1? Neither can many people. Go for multiple part time jobs. McDonalds or a fast food chain would be great and efficient for the project. Again, simulates the real world.

    4. Still having trouble finding #2 or #3, keep the bad eating habits an keep looking; no wight loss routine until you find the above. Pressure now, you can do it!

    5. Once you have found the above, you must keep up this schedule for at least 6 months. Working 2+ jobs, eating the bad stuff, etc.

    6. Want to get highly realistic, add a kid or two to the mix (if you don’t have them already).

    7. Put a freeze on all prior assets and live off what you are making from the above.

    8. Watch a series of really depressing movies to really kick in the depressed feelings. Do so while munching on some chips and drinking a soda.

    9. Once you have been living all of the above for 6 months, keep doing all the work, but start eating healthy and do the exercise to get back down to a healthy weight.

If that can be done, which I know can be done (and has been) with discipline, I’d give a huge kudos the the fitness guru. I mean to really get a feel for how difficult it is for people, you need to live the entire lifestyle. A little glimpse doesn’t really cut it. It’s kind of like being a “tourist of being overweight,” and nobody really likes a tourist.

Anyway, good luck to you sir. I mean no disrespect and I know you are trying to help people, and that’s awesome! Just try not to die in the process, because it would be pretty funny to people in that sadistic/ironic sort of way.
