“Mom” Tricks to Ensure Kids Behave at the Hairdresser

It is an infuriating chore for a mom to ensure that her kids behave at the hair salon. Every mom
wants to have the salon experience with their kids. As a matter of fact, even the most disciplined
child will not conform to manners while at the hairdresser.

In order to avoid the trial at the hairdresser, moms should prepare to handle the panic themselves
rather than cursing the child or forcing the hair dresser to counteract. It is a universal phenomenon
for kids to react at the hairdresser.

Firstly, try to realize the fear of the kid who is unaware of what good those scissors will be doing
to him. Any wrongdoing can result in a lopsided haircut, deep cut or a harsher wound. If the moms
get themselves equipped with the right preparation and knowledge, they can make it a very pleasant
experience for everyone else.

So, take some tips from this article and workout an easy solution.

1. Take Along Some Art Tools/Materials And Toys With You: Never count on the hairdresser to
provide books or toys for your kid. Instead, take along some easy art tools and materials so that
your kid stays engaged with them. Coloring books, color pencils, small toys, dolls or anything your
kid enjoys the most are the best options. Avoid stuffed toys as it is very difficult to brush off tiny
hair strands from them.

2. Dust off the Baby’s Neck with Powder Constantly: Get a big brush from a cosmetic store to
brush of tiny hair particles while the hairdresser cuts them off. This will prevent them from itching
your kid’s neck and other body parts, such as ear, lower neck and arms. Dab some powder over the
skin so the wet hair dries off quickly and it becomes easier to take them off later.

3. Engage Your Child While Waiting For Your Turn: While you wait at the lounge for your turn,
pick up some hair styling magazines and ask your child to choose the one he/she like the best. It
will not only give your child the option to select the hair style, but also excite him/her into getting a
haircut. However, ensure that you pick up a kids hair styling magazine, or be prepared for another
behavioral trial.

4. Ward off the Kid’s Fear: This is mostly prevalent with kids who are brought in for the first time.
The initial stance of such kids can be very dreadful while those scissors and clippers make their
way towards them. Ask your child what he/she fears? Pat their back and try to ease off their fear by
telling them that those scissor and clippers will only chop off the hair.
Often children are feared into believing that sharp instruments are meant to punish them for bad
behavior. In this case, talk to them and tell that only if they move the other way round, the scissors
and clippers will cause cuts and wounds.

5. Talk to the child: In addition to the above, keep on talking to the kid while the hairdresser does
the task. With your presence, the kid will be at ease and will not panic as much as you have been
expecting. The hairdressers are also well aware of the tricks to keep the kids busy. Once your kid
starts enjoying the haircut, you can go back to your seat and flip across your favorite magazines.
